1968:<\/strong> The Lawrence Hall of Science, named in honor of Ernest Orlando Lawrence, opens to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"red\n\"yellow\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the walls of our science center, our work reaches over 12M young people<\/strong> per year.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Over 55 million people<\/strong> have experienced our planetarium programs, offered at 220+ planetariums nationwide<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1973:<\/strong> We develop the first participatory planetarium, where visitors are invited to ask questions and contribute ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"green\n\n\n\n

Our curriculum has far-reaching effects, too. Over 200 million learners<\/strong> have used our materials in all 50 states<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Throughout our work, we focus on educational equity. The Lawrence Hall of Science has fueled generations of underrepresented youth<\/strong> in STEM learning.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1977: We introduce programs to address bias in math and science education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"red\n\n\n\n

“Expanding Your Horizons,” a program we designed to introduce girls to STEM careers, now serves 25,000 girls annually.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n\"red\n\"yellow\n\n\n\n

The Lawrence has long provided the public hands-on access to innovative technology<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1978:<\/strong> Through the Friday Project (FRID), The Lawrence Hall of Science is one of the first institutions to offer public access<\/strong> to computers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"bay\n\n\n\n

Today, learners anywhere can get hands-on with our apps, which have reached more than 2 million downloads<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1983:<\/strong> The National Commission on Excellence in Education publishes \u201cA Nation At Risk,\u201d a searing report outlining the deficits in math and science education<\/strong> in U.S. schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"green\n\n\n\n

Our work meets a need<\/strong>\u2014identified decades ago, and still relevant today\u2014for high-quality STEM education.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s why we\u2019re continually innovating. In the past decade, over 7,500 teens have participated in extended-learning STEM programs<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

2010:<\/strong> Engineering gets hands-on at our new Ingenuity Lab. Tomorrow\u2019s inventors start today, designing, building, and testing their ideas with the support of UC Berkeley students, staff, and volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"red\n\"red\n\n\n\n

25% of K-12 students <\/strong>use our learning materials each year.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

2016:<\/strong> The Lawrence joins the Museums for All initiative, offering free admission<\/strong> to EBT cardholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"ultraviolet\n\n\n\n

And our outreach vans take STEM learning on-the-go and have traveled over 6 million miles.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Science starts at The Lawrence Hall of Science, and there\u2019s no telling how far we\u2019ll take it.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
